Our goal today, just as it was when we opened more than 20 years ago, is to inspire and empower students through an education experience tailored to each child’s needs.
To be their best selves, we believe students need to take responsibility, show kindness, and stay actively involved in their learning journey. Our team of Ohio-certified teachers and statewide community of families and students are dedicated to creating a learning environment that’s all about accountability, respect, and fun!

How does online learning work?
Ohio Virtual Academy is a tuition-free, Cognia-accredited online public school serving students in grades K–12 across Ohio. We offer learning options that provide the structure, accountability, and certified teachers families expect from a brick-and-mortar public school—along with the freedom to learn in a safe, judgment-free space.
Is Ohio Virtual Academy accredited? Where does the curriculum come from?
Absolutely! Ohio Virtual Academy is fully accredited by Cognia, a nationally accredited governing body. This rigorous accreditation is a valuable mark of distinction that ensures the quality of our policies and validates diploma eligibility and credit transfer worldwide. We use a high-quality, proven curriculum that benefits from K12’s 25+ years of expertise in online education. We then tailor these resources to meet our unique academic needs here in Ohio, ensuring state standards are met with excellence.
What does “by K12” mean?
Ohio Virtual Academy uses the K12 online learning platform, tailoring its high-quality curriculum and extensive resources to meet our students’ unique needs here in Ohio.
K12 has been delivering online education for more than 25 years and is used in more than 100 online schools across the USA. We’re proud to be one of them!
What grades does Ohio Virtual Academy offer?
OHVA offers full-time enrollment for Ohio students in grades K–12. Some of our students enroll in kindergarten and spend their whole school career with us, while others may need to enroll for a semester or two to catch up on credits. We love seeing our students grow and discover their strengths!

I’ve been able to do so many things that you might think wouldn’t be possible in online school. I’ve had debate club, trivia club, an esports team, and so many others. Sure, that starts behind a computer screen, but it’s a world that’s opened through it.
We have prom and homecoming. The dances are so fun. You feel safe there, and everybody’s very welcoming. They put a lot of work into it. Student council runs it, so they get to decide all the dance themes and ideas, and I got to [provide] some input, so that was fun!
The community with OHVA is excellent. All the activities, the field trips, the online engagement, even though they don't have peer-to-peer interactions daily in person, they build friends. Some kids were even right down the street from us!
